I want to share today about optimizing for Google in order to best poise your site for winter marketing , but first I want to say that I know I haven’t shared in a little while, but I am still here!
I have been working on some great and interesting projects lately for local, and some not so local, businesses. It has involved everything from optimizing for Google, Bing and Yahoo, building Facebook Pages, optimizing local citations, Google Plus pages, and building websites. On my plate currently is a Glass Company, a Property Management company, a Yoga Instructor, Mechanic, local charity, Spruce Grove day care, accountant, massage, and a hair salon, plus a few others of personal interest not related to a brick and mortar business.
With all of that, my days are very busy and I love it all! Building websites and working with websites as a business and as a hobby, I’m so fortunate.
Now is the Time to be Optimizing for Google
We are now coming into the fall and though I hate to say it, winter is right around the corner. In the winter many businesses experience a lull and sales slow down (except those catering to the Christmas buying crowd) and it is a great time right now to think about what you can do and should do to help prepare your online presence for the slower time of year. Optimizing your site for Google and other search engines is not something you do once and forget. You do need to check your SEO several times a year and monitor things all the time.
Check Your Current Optimizing Efforts
Checking your optimization efforts so far and your online presence, ask yourself if your business can and should do more with many free social media sites and directories.
What can you do to enhance the fan experience with your Facebook Page and attract more fans to ‘Like’ it, that you can later market to in the months ahead?
How about your Google Local Plus page? Has it been updated with seasonal hours, photos, videos and other info? Do you have reviews that should be added to your page or to your website?
If you have added new staff, a new location, new services or new products to your inventory think about having a web commercial/video created to add to your website and YouTube channel. Videos like these can also be optimized for traffic and building your brand.
Optimize for Google Using Citations
If you have listings on sites such as Yelp, HotFrog and others like it (and you should!) claim your listings if you haven’t already and update your information. Your customers are finding your listing on some of those sites whether you know it or not. These sites acquire listings from sites such as YellowPages.ca. If you aren’t updating your own information and optimizing it properly on these sites customers are getting the wrong information, and you aren’t’ making the most of it either. These are FREE!
(Don’t ever complain about advertising costs until you are doing everything you can with the free sites available to you. I’m just sayin’ …)
The listings on these free sites like Yelp are called ‘Citations’. Get as many citations for your local business as you can. These are important for businesses locally that have a physical address. It can be very time consuming to get these citations and so you want to be sure you are getting the ones that will serve you the best. If you need help with getting the best citations for your company, I offer it as a service in conjunction with Google Plus Local Listing optimization, so you don’t have to struggle with this yourself and can get back to what you do best.
Optimize Your Social Media
Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest, and Google Plus are all free sites that can help to bolster your brand and reputation more than you realize. They just need to be used properly and regularly. Optimizing your information on these sites also helps you with optimizing for Google.
If you have any questions about these, please leave them below, or call, or email me directly and we’ll talk. If I have my head buried in pixels in Photoshop or the styling code of a website, give me some time, but I will get back to you as soon as possible.
